About

Kids’ art classes.
Every Saturday.
45 minutes.

Please note that due to COVID some of our class times may have cancelled or changed. To keep up to date, please follow us on Facebook or Instagram.

The Beach Studio is an outdoor art class (indoors during winter or bad weather) developed specifically for creative kids, 5-12 years of age. The 45-minute sessions adopt a step-by-step style approach to painting their own masterpiece, which they can keep!

The classes are run on a casual basis, so there are no lock in term bookings and you can come as regularly or irregularly as you want.

Whilst parents sit back and relax each child learns the steps to creating a copy of a famous artist’s work as well as learning a little about the artist. Beach Studio artists paint in the fresh open air or inside the West Beach Surf Club (which offers some cracking views) using supplied art materials.

About the teacher

My name is Julia Blanka and I developed The Beach Studio because I love art, working with children and the beach. I have previous experience working in children’s art programs at the Guggenheim Museum in New York as well as the Adelaide Festival and running the Zhu-Lin Buddhist Temple kids’ art program.

I enjoy exploring peoples’ creative potential whilst teaching them valuable technical skills. I believe creativity should be nourished and encouraged. My mantra is that there is no right or wrong in art, just an imagination that needs to be set free, explored and appreciated.

As a child I was a student of the Ruth Tuck Art School, later completing a Bachelor of Graphic Design from the University of South Australia and then updated my drawing skills at the New York Studio School. I have a current police check and a working with children certificate.

Keep your eyes peeled! Follow The Beach Studio on Facebook or Instagram to keep up to date on our next kids’ art classes.

FAQs

For FAQs pertaining to ART+WINE+BEACH please read here.

Is there a minimum age requirement?
Classes ideally suit children aged 5-12. If your artist is a mature ‘almost 5-year-old’ and super keen to attend I will make an exception. If your child is under the age of 5, I recommended that you stay and help them paint as sometimes a big piece of paper can be quite overwhelming.

Where are the kids’ classes located?
Kids’ art sessions are located at the West Beach Surf Club, corner West Beach Road and Seaview Road.

How many children in each class?
Approximately 14-18 children.

What are my parking options?
West Beach offers free parking everywhere. During warmer weather there are more people so we advise arriving 10-15 minutes before class to secure a parking spot.

What should I bring?
A water bottle and sunscreen if you plan on having some beach time afterwards. Although all art materials are water soluble, please don’t wear your best party outfit (just in case). All art materials are supplied.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
I can be contacted via email or Facebook. Please note that it will be difficult for me to respond after 9:30am on ‘art class days’ as I’m busy setting up and teaching but will do my very best to get back to you as soon as I can.

I don’t want my child’s face on social media. How can I prevent this?
I take photos of the childrens’ art and sometimes their faces for our social media pages. If you prefer for this not to happen, please advise by writing me a note via email or Facebook.
